July 20, 2024, Saturday — Sold Vineyard Sunset. Indeed it did and indeed, it made my day!! Not too often does someone buy a painting sight unseen, artist unknown, without the slightest peep of conversation. I guess when you know what you know and you know what you want, you just press the buttons.

Post sale, I was in communication with the buyer from New York. Lower Manhattan to be exact. What a delight. He’s an art lover through and through. He discovered my work on Samsung Frame TV and keeps my paintings in his favorites so they rotate through the day. Finally, he’d had quite enough of that and had to google me. Fortunately, he was in the market for small pieces and this one filled the bill. It reminded him of the Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Solvang wine country, where he spends time. (As do I, since my daughter lives there. Though the piece was inspired from a real place in Calistoga.) These two wine countries of California have such a similar look and vibe.

Gotta repeating myself, haha. Today who knows if that’s for SEO, or I’m just screaming from the rooftops. I mean, why not? that’s three original sales in the last three weeks. Make my month!

This painting, Vineyard Sunset, was my third winery painting. The first, Cabernet Hills is a petite sequence of hills and vines to get the hang of the lines and curves involved. It was done from the imagination and is simple and lovely. I did Calistoga May next, 30 x 40 in, which was a significant study of geometry and parallax. I remember the sky gave me total fits. But we got there eventually. Then this one next. Another small one,16 x 20, but with plenty of complexity: the vines themselves, oak trees in the middle of the vines, background hills, and deep shadows from late day pouring downslope. Well, day is done. Painted three hours in the studio this morning. Bailed at 1PM when it was already 106F in there. Really?? Tomorrow I should wrap up this little beast I’m working on. Some of the petites are so hard for me. Been trying to grock why that is. Grateful for the sale today and for my new collector, and for the painting being adopted into a loving home. It means a lot to me.
