July 16, 2024, Tuesday — The return of Mr. Mustard Mercedes, that was today’s art theme. I braved the heat again today out in the studio and first thing on the agenda was to finish the mustard painting. I just have the sky remaining. “Just”. Hah. Sometimes the sky is the easiest part of a painting and goes on peacefully, placidly, intuitively. And other times I struggle mightily, as in someone might die, to get the sky to vibe with the rest of the painting. I can never predict how it’s going to play out. And Mr. Mustard, not the real name of the painting (it does not yet have a name), has turned out to be a ball buster when it comes to the sky.
Why not paint a mustard sky? I can hear you asking. That does sound wonderful and sexy even. But no. And that’s because the lower 2/3 of the painting is a field of mustard. Hence this moniker Mr. Mustard. With the knife, in the kitchen, we can presume. Nope, there is an entire yellow field of mustard in the lower 2/3 of the painting so the dish will not have adequate tension if served with a mustard sky. I hold this truth to be self evident as I know you now do too.
How about a Mercedes sky?
But what I did today has given me an idea that I will put into play tomorrow. That will be another return of Mr. Mustard Mercedes. Maybe I will paint a Mercedes sky! Oh, my. I need to eat and go to bed. Quickly! Before people are harmed. We all know how bad karaoke can clear a room. It’s not only how you put words together, but do you have anything interesting to say?
On that note, I will put everyone out of their misery and say goodnight. Sleep well. May visions of mustard Mercedes, yellow Porsches, chartreuse Teslas and hot pink hydrogen hand warmers dance in your head.
As usual, a warm invite to browse my originals gallery, browse prints, and sign up for my monthly newsletter. Adieu!
