Oct 23, 2022, Sun — Okay, tonight’s subject is Blog: What a Weird Word. I’m glad you agree. I mean, where did that even come from? A B log. As opposed to an A log? As in more casual? Like a blah blah blaag. That sure defines mine! I can see a vlog, for virtual blog. Although that sounds like a word describing the gag reflex. It has a strong forceful sound and makes the throat rise up. I can see why the word pickers didn’t pick that one.
I guess I could google it. But isn’t this much more fun?
Or, another possibility is talking about my day. Or my minute, as in right now, as in I’m freaking boiling hot! It’s the first cool day of fall today, and I was freezing when I came home. So, I dug out my Uggs and put on my wool Icebreaker long underwear and my wool leggings over the top of them. Then I cooked like a fiend, making my “cat food” (that’s code for my lunch soup for the next month, which I freeze) and now I’m sitting down writing my blah blah blaag and am stripping my clothes off as I type I’m so overheated.
Isn’t this an exciting development?
Okay, I’m going to google blog before we go any farther on that track.
Aha! It was shortened from weblog. Duh, I think I used to know that. Here’s more intel from Wikipedia, who I love and donate to every year.
- The term “weblog” was coined by Jorn Barger[9] on December 17, 1997. The short form, “blog”, was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999.[10][11][12] Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used “blog” as both a noun and verb (“to blog”, meaning “to edit one’s weblog or to post to one’s weblog”) and devised the term “blogger” in connection with Pyra Labs’ Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.[13]
I had a wonderful day at the studio and am SO EXCITED about Aspen Trail! I feel like my groove is back. I’m not sure why I’m not showing you pics as I go. Probably being a little shy. Maybe I will today…
Consequently, that wraps up Blog: What a Weird Word. A weird word for weird times. And “weird” is weird, too, which is how I know how to spell it. Thank you for hanging in. And, now, just because, here are my links to Originals, Prints, and Art Giveaway.
