This richly-textured still life of freshly-picked apple blossoms in a Chinese vase is one of my early paintings using oils. This was during my martial arts phase (I was a third degree black belt in Taekwondo and winner of 3 national gold medals in sparring) when I was fond of using the Kanji characters to add messages in the work. On this painting they read, “At the foot of a lighthouse it is dark. Be gentle with yourself and others.”
